For Visitors

St. Peter’s has two services of Holy Eucharist on Sunday mornings:

  • A traditional service (Rite I) is offered at 8:00 AM.
  • A more informal, family-oriented service (Rite II) is offered at 10:15 AM. Sunday school for all ages meets at 9:00 AM during the months of August-May.  Nursery care for young children is available from 10:00 am to 11:15 pm.

Location

St. Peter’s is located in the downtown area of Columbia next to the James K. Polk Presidential Home. We are on West 7th.   Click here for a map.

Parking

General parking is available behind the church as well as on the Walker Street side. Handicap-accessible parking is available on the Frierson Street side between the church and Polk Home.

Entering the Building

You can enter St. Peter’s through any one of three doorways

  • The church is directly accessible from West 7th Street through the two large front doors.
  • The parish hall, the Nursery, Sunday school classrooms, and church building can be reached through the doorway at the top of the concrete stairs from the back parking lot.
  • The church office and the Lounge (where the adult Sunday school classes take place) can be found by walking under the arched walkway on the West 7th Street side and turning left under the hanging sign that says "Office."

Nursery

The nursery for children (Infants through Pre-schoolers) is located by the parish hall. On Sundays, the Nursery is open from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM. On any given Sunday, four well-experienced women care for the children. All four have undergone a complete background check and have received training in the Safeguarding God's Children program.

The Worship Service

Upon entering the church you will greeted either by an Usher or by the member of the Vestry (the Greeter of the day) who will give you a Worship Bulletin which contains our weekly announcements, the readings of the day, and a list that will show you how to follow and participate in that service. Worship services at St. Peter’s are conducted from the Book of Common Prayer and Hymnal, whose page numbers are found in the Worship Bulletin. Ushers and Greeters can also show you how to find the Nursery, the restrooms, or a comfortable place to sit in one of the pews. Once seated, you will find an envelope with a form on the outside that you can use to make a prayer request, make a monetary offering to one of several ministries, and/or give your contact information. We would very much appreciate your telling us how to contact you following the service so that we can answer any questions you might have about St. Peter's. Please give your envelope either to a Greeter after the service or to an Usher as the collection plate is passed.

Church Membership

We would love to have an opportunity to speak with you about church membership.  Please either speak with Father Bowhay or the Greeter after Sunday morning worship services or call the church office during the week at (931) 388-3331.
